PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) is a daily pill or routine injection that helps prevent HIV infection. When taken as directed, it is up to 99% effective.

PrEP is recommended for anyone who wants extra protection against HIV. You may be a good candidate if you have a partner living with HIV, have multiple sexual partners, or share needles for injection drug use. PrEP is also especially important for groups facing higher rates of HIV, including gay and bisexual men (any race), women of color, and transgender women (any race).

Yes. An HIV test is required before starting PrEP to confirm you are HIV-negative. Regular follow-up testing is also required while taking PrEP. Your patient navigator will help you to make this process easy and seamless.

PrEPConnect also partners with local non-profit organizations to provide financial assistance programs and help minimize out-of-pocket expenses. In many cases, the cost of testing, prevention, and medication is fully covered, meaning there is no cost to the patient.

We provide ongoing support: regular HIV testing, medication refills or injection scheduling, and check-ins with your care team so you can stay protected with confidence.

Most people tolerate PrEP well. Some may experience mild, temporary effects (e.g., nausea or headache) that typically resolve. Your provider will review benefits, risks, and monitoring with you.
